DIRTcar Series Doubleheader this Sunday at Cornwall Motor Speedway!


Cornwall, Ont – Tuesday, May 29, 2012 – Martin Bélanger – Cornwall Motor Speedway is becoming an expert in inaugural events. After being host of the 1st race of the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series on May 20th, promoter Ron Morin and his team will welcome the first events of the DIRTcar Sportsman Series and DIRTcar Pro-Stock Series, the Modified, Semi-Pro and Mini-Stock class will have a regular program on Jiffy Auto Services Night.

A fine of field of Sportsman drivers is expected to compete in the 50-lap event, several invaders from Western New-York, Niagara area and Quebec will make the trip down the 401 and be present at Cornwall. In 2011, local driver Jeff Philipps was the winner of the event as 30 cars had showed up. Cornwall Speedway stars such as Chris Herbison, Mitch Primeau, Gilles Godard, Corey Wheeler and other will be in contention for the win on Sunday night.

A similar field of Pro-Stock chauffeurs will also be on hand for the 50-lap event, a good delegation of Northern New-York and from Quebec will make the haul to Cornwall. Joey Ladouceur had paved his way towards his 2011 DIRTcar championship by winning this race at Cornwall in front of invaders Pete Stefanski and Buddy Hencke. Fresh off a win last Sunday, Ladouceur will be the guy to watch during the race as other regulars will want to show their talent.

Also on the card, a 30-lap Modified Feature, as point’s leader, Dale Planck is still looking for win #1 of 2012, he will have competition with Kyle Dingwall and Chris Raabe also looking towards the winner circle. The Semi-Pro with 15 laps and Mini-Stock will 12 laps will complete this great night of racing.

Gage Morin grabs Modified feature at Cornwall Motor Speedway!


Cornwall, Ont – Sunday, May 27, 2012 – Martin Bélanger – The Cornwall Motor Speedway presented another great evening of racing with a special photo and autograph session at intermission time. The track was wicked fast and gave for some great side by side racing on The Squire Shop Night.

Kayle Robidoux led the field of Modified to the green in the 30-lap Jiffy Auto Service feature. Robidoux and second place runner Gage Morin ran away from the field with 7 laps in the books as Bruno Lepage brought the caution on lap 9. On the restart, Gage Morin grabbed the lead as Tim O’Brien slipped to second with Robidoux down to third. At the halfway point, Morin had a strong lead over O’Brien, Robidoux, Kyle Dingwall and Dale Planck. With ten laps to go, Morin had full stretch lead over Robidoux with Dingwall racing for third with O’Brien. Morin led the final circuit to win his first feature of the season over Dingwall, Robidoux, Planck and O’Brien completed the top 5.

In the 20-lap Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock feature, a big accident involving several cars occurred on lap 1. On the following green, Steve Johnston took the lead as Roch Aubin was running second with Marc Lalonde in third. Aubin was challenging for the leader on lap 7. The second yellow came out as rookie Charles-David Beauchamp and Ghislain Valade got together in turn 2 on lap 9. Aubin had a good car on the bottom and got the lead on lap 11 with Ryan Stabler in third as caution was back on the field with 7 laps to go. Silent for the first portion of the feature, Joey Ladouceur made a view passes to move up to second place as Marc Lalonde slowed the field on lap 15. Ladouceur took the lead on the restart and got a good battle with Aubin and led the final circuit to win his first feature of the season over Dion Oakes and Ryan Stabler.

A good field of 21 cars took the green in the 20-lap Tracy Wheeler Storm Realty Sportsman feature. Mitch Primeau took the early lead over Adam Rozon and Brian Comeau. Making his way through the field was Chris Herbison has jumped to third after starting 14th just before the yellow came back out on lap 4. Herbison got quickly to second on the green and was following Primeau closely. Caution was back out on lap 7 as Brian Comeau and Corey Barnes got together in the frontstretch, Herbison left pitside on that caution leaving his second, he was back in time for the following green. Primeau had company in Gilles Godard and Dillon Sallows at halfway point. Godard used the top lane to take the lead on lap 16 as Herbison was able to crack the top 5. Godard led the final laps to win his first feature in the Sportsman ranks with Primeau, Dan Jalbert, Herbison and Ryan Arbuthnot completing the top 5.

In the Evans Bus Line Semi-Pro feature, Jake Deer led the first 4 laps as Benoit Dubois took the lead with Derek Cryderman moving up to second. Dubois was the class of the field and got the win over Cryderman and Guy Regimbald finished third.

Martin Bernard took the lead on lap 5 in the Crazy Dave`s DJ Services Mini-Stock feature and never looked back to win his first feature of the season over last week`s winner Mathieu Aubin and veteran Mike Gaucher completed the top 3.

Next week will be a big event for the Sportsman and Pro-Stock as the DIRTcar Series will be in town for both categories. On the agenda for next Sunday, 50 laps of racing action in each class plus a full program for Modifieds, Semi-Pro and Mini-Stock. Danny Johnson wins the inaugural Canadian Nationals/DIRTcar 358-Modified Series at Cornwall Motor Speedway!


Cornwall, Ont – Sunday, May 20, 2012 – Martin Bélanger – In front of capacity crowd on Opening Night at Cornwall Motor Speedway, the best drivers in the DIRTcar 358-Modified ranks showed their talent in the Canadian Nationals/DIRTcar 358-Modified Series with the 100-lap event on Minute Auto Wash Night.

Dale Planck led the field of 30 cars to green in the 100-lap 358-Modified Minute Auto Wash 100 as Mario Clair slipped in turn 4 and caused the first caution on lap 2.  The race resumed on lap 8 as Mat Williamson powered by Planck for the lead with defending series champion Danny Johnson moving up to third after starting in ninth. Johnson passed Planck on the following lap for second.  Jeremy Wilder brought the field together on lap 14 as he slowed down in turn 2. The green lights came back on lap 23 with Williamson charging in first. The leaders were pulling away from the rest of the field when Steve Bernard came to a stop in the backstretch on lap 27. Williamson is still the leader with Johnson, Planck, Bobby Herrington and Brett Hearn cracking the top 5 with 31 laps in the books.  Johnson used the heavy traffic to his advantage has he moved by Williamson for the lead on lap 38.  Hearn used the high lane to take 3rd on Planck with 43 laps completed.

At the mid-race, Johnson was still in the lead with Williamson, Hearn, Planck and Laurent Ladouceur running the top 5. While the top 4 remained unchanged, Danny O’Brien made his way to fifth on lap 55. Hearn was strong on the outside as charged by Williamson for second with 40 laps to go. The yellow came back on lap 63 as Bruno Lepage spun out in turn 4. Johnson kept the top spot over Hearn as Planck got a good jump on the restart and returned to third as Williamson was back to fourth. Johnson still in the lead as Yan Bussière had a tremendous start and took fifth with a bold move between O’Brien and Ladouceur on lap 76.  Hearn was waiting for an opportunity with Johnson as Lepage made another stop in turn 4 on with 16 laps to go. Johnson pulled away from Hearn with only 5 laps to go. Johnson led the final laps to win over Hearn, Planck, Williamson and Bussière completed the top 5.

Jocelyn Roy got the edge in the 40-lap Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock Series; Roy led the first 6 laps as a pair of #7 cars passed him with Ryan Stabler in the lead over Rob Yetman with Roy running in third. Yetman was running on the backbumper of Stabler as the feature quickly came to the halfway point with Roy, Michel Desjardins and Ladouceur now in fifth. Yetman used the top lane to get by Stabler on the following lap as both drivers were swapping the lead as they ran a clean race in front with Stabler back on top with 15 left to go. Ladouceur was now running in third as he used the inside lane to gain real estate on the leaders. Stabler pulled away from the field as several positions were changed in the top 5 as Stabler captured the feature over Ghislain Valade, Marc Lalonde, Joey Ladouceur and Rob Yetman as the race went green to checker.

Martin Pelletier led the 24-car field in the 20-lap Storm Realty Tracey Wheeler sponsored Sportsman feature. Pelletier was running the top side well has he had rookie contender Corey Wheeler on the bottom. Pelletier ran on top for the first 12 laps as Wheeler took the lead over Pelletier with Mathieu Desjardins running in third. Wheeler led the final laps to win his first career feature in the Sportsman rank over Pelletier and Desjardins.

Derek Cryderman was able to resists to several cautions to capture the 15-lap Evans Bus Line Semi-Pro feature race. Benoit Dubois and Guy Regimald completed the podium.

In the Crazy Dave’s DJ Services 15-lap Feature race, Mathieu Aubin had to hold off on some charges of Joe McNichols and Mike Gaucher to win the first feature of the season in this category.

Race fans will be able to see the drivers and their cars from a closer perspective next week with photo and autograph night during intermission. A full race program in all five divisions will occur. The Canadian Nationals/358-Modified MrDIRTcar Series to start off 2012 at Cornwall Motor Speedway!


Cornwall, Ont – Tuesday, May 15, 2012 – Martin Bélanger – After a long wait, the 2012 season will finally start this Sunday, May 20 at Cornwall Motor Speedway with the first race of the Gaetan’s Chip Stand Canadian Nationals for the 358-Modifieds, this event will also have great importance as the MrDIRTcar 358-Modifieds Series will also begin his activities during this 100-lap event paying $4,000 to the winner. The Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock Series will also be part of this great night with a 40-lap feature as the Sportsman, Semi-Pro and Mini-Stock will have a regular show on Minute Auto Wash night.

A stellar field of Modifieds is expected on opening night. The 2011 MrDIRTcar 358-Modified Champion, Danny Johnson will lead the invader group that should include stars such as Brett Hearn, Danny O’Brien, Mario Clair, David Hébert, Mat Williamson, Matt Billings and many others will be in battle against Stéphane Lafrance, Carey Terrance, Dale Planck, Laurent Ladouceur, Luke Whitteker, Tim O’Brien and several of the best local talent in Eastern Ontario. The 30 best drivers to qualify will be in battle for the coveted $4,000 to win at the end of the 100-lap event.

Again in 2012, promoter Ron Morin will give prizes to drivers that will compete in all three events of the Canadian Nationals. A 2013 Bicknell chassis is the main prize along with 2 barrels of VP Fuels, a set of 4 Hoosier tires and 5 envelopes of $250 each will be drawn at the last event on Sept 2nd. The series champion will also receive a nice $2,500 for his win. Including the purse and prize money more than $75,000 will be awarded to the drivers.

The Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock Series will start off also at Cornwall with the first of 6 events presented throughout Eastern Ontario, Northern New-York and Quebec, on the line a 40-lap feature paying a hefty $750 to the winner. The best Pro-Stock drivers of both provinces along with drivers from Northern New-York will be on hand.  

The Sportsman with 20 laps, Semi-Pro with 15 and a dozen for the Mini-Stock will also be on the racing card. The pit gates will open at 3:30pm with general admission opening at 4:30pm. Time trials for 358-Modifieds are scheduled to start at 6pm. The first heat is scheduled for 7pm sharp.
