Gage Morin grabs Modified feature at Cornwall Motor Speedway!

Cornwall, Ont – Sunday, May 27, 2012 – Martin Bélanger – The Cornwall Motor Speedway presented another great evening of racing with a special photo and autograph session at intermission time. The track was wicked fast and gave for some great side by side racing on The Squire Shop Night.

Kayle Robidoux led the field of Modified to the green in the 30-lap Jiffy Auto Service feature. Robidoux and second place runner Gage Morin ran away from the field with 7 laps in the books as Bruno Lepage brought the caution on lap 9. On the restart, Gage Morin grabbed the lead as Tim O’Brien slipped to second with Robidoux down to third. At the halfway point, Morin had a strong lead over O’Brien, Robidoux, Kyle Dingwall and Dale Planck. With ten laps to go, Morin had full stretch lead over Robidoux with Dingwall racing for third with O’Brien. Morin led the final circuit to win his first feature of the season over Dingwall, Robidoux, Planck and O’Brien completed the top 5.

In the 20-lap Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock feature, a big accident involving several cars occurred on lap 1. On the following green, Steve Johnston took the lead as Roch Aubin was running second with Marc Lalonde in third. Aubin was challenging for the leader on lap 7. The second yellow came out as rookie Charles-David Beauchamp and Ghislain Valade got together in turn 2 on lap 9. Aubin had a good car on the bottom and got the lead on lap 11 with Ryan Stabler in third as caution was back on the field with 7 laps to go. Silent for the first portion of the feature, Joey Ladouceur made a view passes to move up to second place as Marc Lalonde slowed the field on lap 15. Ladouceur took the lead on the restart and got a good battle with Aubin and led the final circuit to win his first feature of the season over Dion Oakes and Ryan Stabler.

A good field of 21 cars took the green in the 20-lap Tracy Wheeler Storm Realty Sportsman feature. Mitch Primeau took the early lead over Adam Rozon and Brian Comeau. Making his way through the field was Chris Herbison has jumped to third after starting 14^th just before the yellow came back out on lap 4. Herbison got quickly to second on the green and was following Primeau closely. Caution was back out on lap 7 as Brian Comeau and Corey Barnes got together in the frontstretch, Herbison left pitside on that caution leaving his second, he was back in time for the following green. Primeau had company in Gilles Godard and Dillon Sallows at halfway point. Godard used the top lane to take the lead on lap 16 as Herbison was able to crack the top 5. Godard led the final laps to win his first feature in the Sportsman ranks with Primeau, Dan Jalbert, Herbison and Ryan Arbuthnot completing the top 5.

In the Evans Bus Line Semi-Pro feature, Jake Deer led the first 4 laps as Benoit Dubois took the lead with Derek Cryderman moving up to second. Dubois was the class of the field and got the win over Cryderman and Guy Regimbald finished third.

Martin Bernard took the lead on lap 5 in the Crazy Dave`s DJ Services Mini-Stock feature and never looked back to win his first feature of the season over last week`s winner Mathieu Aubin and veteran Mike Gaucher completed the top 3.

Next week will be a big event for the Sportsman and Pro-Stock as the DIRTcar Series will be in town for both categories. On the agenda for next Sunday, 50 laps of racing action in each class plus a full program for Modifieds, Semi-Pro and Mini-Stock. Danny Johnson wins the inaugural Canadian Nationals/DIRTcar 358-Modified Series at Cornwall Motor Speedway!

Cornwall, Ont – Sunday, May 20, 2012 – Martin Bélanger – In front of capacity crowd on Opening Night at Cornwall Motor Speedway, the best drivers in the DIRTcar 358-Modified ranks showed their talent in the Canadian Nationals/DIRTcar 358-Modified Series with the 100-lap event on Minute Auto Wash Night.

Dale Planck led the field of 30 cars to green in the 100-lap 358-Modified Minute Auto Wash 100 as Mario Clair slipped in turn 4 and caused the first caution on lap 2.  The race resumed on lap 8 as Mat Williamson powered by Planck for the lead with defending series champion Danny Johnson moving up to third after starting in ninth. Johnson passed Planck on the following lap for second.  Jeremy Wilder brought the field together on lap 14 as he slowed down in turn 2. The green lights came back on lap 23 with Williamson charging in first. The leaders were pulling away from the rest of the field when Steve Bernard came to a stop in the backstretch on lap 27. Williamson is still the leader with Johnson, Planck, Bobby Herrington and Brett Hearn cracking the top 5 with 31 laps in the books.  Johnson used the heavy traffic to his advantage has he moved by Williamson for the lead on lap 38.  Hearn used the high lane to take 3^rd on Planck with 43 laps completed.

At the mid-race, Johnson was still in the lead with Williamson, Hearn, Planck and Laurent Ladouceur running the top 5. While the top 4 remained unchanged, Danny O’Brien made his way to fifth on lap 55. Hearn was strong on the outside as charged by Williamson for second with 40 laps to go. The yellow came back on lap 63 as Bruno Lepage spun out in turn 4. Johnson kept the top spot over Hearn as Planck got a good jump on the restart and returned to third as Williamson was back to fourth. Johnson still in the lead as Yan Bussière had a tremendous start and took fifth with a bold move between O’Brien and Ladouceur on lap 76.  Hearn was waiting for an opportunity with Johnson as Lepage made another stop in turn 4 on with 16 laps to go. Johnson pulled away from Hearn with only 5 laps to go. Johnson led the final laps to win over Hearn, Planck, Williamson and Bussière completed the top 5.

Jocelyn Roy got the edge in the 40-lap Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock Series; Roy led the first 6 laps as a pair of #7 cars passed him with Ryan Stabler in the lead over Rob Yetman with Roy running in third. Yetman was running on the backbumper of Stabler as the feature quickly came to the halfway point with Roy, Michel Desjardins and Ladouceur now in fifth. Yetman used the top lane to get by Stabler on the following lap as both drivers were swapping the lead as they ran a clean race in front with Stabler back on top with 15 left to go. Ladouceur was now running in third as he used the inside lane to gain real estate on the leaders. Stabler pulled away from the field as several positions were changed in the top 5 as Stabler captured the feature over Ghislain Valade, Marc Lalonde, Joey Ladouceur and Rob Yetman as the race went green to checker.

Martin Pelletier led the 24-car field in the 20-lap Storm Realty Tracey Wheeler sponsored Sportsman feature. Pelletier was running the top side well has he had rookie contender Corey Wheeler on the bottom. Pelletier ran on top for the first 12 laps as Wheeler took the lead over Pelletier with Mathieu Desjardins running in third. Wheeler led the final laps to win his first career feature in the Sportsman rank over Pelletier and Desjardins.

Derek Cryderman was able to resists to several cautions to capture the 15-lap Evans Bus Line Semi-Pro feature race. Benoit Dubois and Guy Regimald completed the podium.

In the Crazy Dave’s DJ Services 15-lap Feature race, Mathieu Aubin had to hold off on some charges of Joe McNichols and Mike Gaucher to win the first feature of the season in this category.

Race fans will be able to see the drivers and their cars from a closer perspective next week with photo and autograph night during intermission. A full race program in all five divisions will occur. The Canadian Nationals/358-Modified MrDIRTcar Series to start off 2012 at Cornwall Motor Speedway!

Cornwall, Ont – Tuesday, May 15, 2012 – Martin Bélanger – After a long wait, the 2012 season will finally start this Sunday, May 20 at Cornwall Motor Speedway with the first race of the Gaetan’s Chip Stand Canadian Nationals for the 358-Modifieds, this event will also have great importance as the MrDIRTcar 358-Modifieds Series will also begin his activities during this 100-lap event paying $4,000 to the winner. The Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock Series will also be part of this great night with a 40-lap feature as the Sportsman, Semi-Pro and Mini-Stock will have a regular show on Minute Auto Wash night.

A stellar field of Modifieds is expected on opening night. The 2011 MrDIRTcar 358-Modified Champion, Danny Johnson will lead the invader group that should include stars such as Brett Hearn, Danny O’Brien, Mario Clair, David Hébert, Mat Williamson, Matt Billings and many others will be in battle against Stéphane Lafrance, Carey Terrance, Dale Planck, Laurent Ladouceur, Luke Whitteker, Tim O’Brien and several of the best local talent in Eastern Ontario. The 30 best drivers to qualify will be in battle for the coveted $4,000 to win at the end of the 100-lap event.

Again in 2012, promoter Ron Morin will give prizes to drivers that will compete in all three events of the Canadian Nationals. A 2013 Bicknell chassis is the main prize along with 2 barrels of VP Fuels, a set of 4 Hoosier tires and 5 envelopes of $250 each will be drawn at the last event on Sept 2nd. The series champion will also receive a nice $2,500 for his win. Including the purse and prize money more than $75,000 will be awarded to the drivers.

The Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock Series will start off also at Cornwall with the first of 6 events presented throughout Eastern Ontario, Northern New-York and Quebec, on the line a 40-lap feature paying a hefty $750 to the winner. The best Pro-Stock drivers of both provinces along with drivers from Northern New-York will be on hand.  

The Sportsman with 20 laps, Semi-Pro with 15 and a dozen for the Mini-Stock will also be on the racing card. The pit gates will open at 3:30pm with general admission opening at 4:30pm. The St.Lawrence Seaway Sportsman Championship and Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock Series; great events at Cornwall Motor Speedway in 2012!

Cornwall, Ont – Sunday, April 29, 2012 – Martin Bélanger – As previously announced Cornwall will be the host of National Series such as the World of Outlaws Late Models and Sprint Car but for promoter Ron Morin, local series is important for the racing around the area. Two series involving Cornwall and other tracks in Quebec and Ontario were created for the Sportsman and Pro-Stock in order to have these drivers in the spotlight.

St.Lawrence Seaway Sportsman Championship

Since the return of the Sportsman category at Cornwall in 2010, the amount of competitors and action has been growing significantly. The same scenario has occurred at Mohawk International Raceway and Brockville and gave the Sportsman program a lot notoriety and stability. The creation of the St.Lawrence Seaway Sportsman Championship will bring the class to another level in 2012. The series will start at Brockville on Saturday, May 19 and then visit Mohawk on Friday, July 27^th to be completed at Cornwall on Sunday, September 2^nd.

All three races will be in the format of 40-lap features with each winner collecting a nice $750. A point’s fund has been established for the top 3, the champion will receive $750, and the runner up will get $500 and third place $250. Great incentive prizes will be awarded to the drivers that will participate to the three events. All entrants that had 100% participation will be eligible to win a Sportsman Crate Motor courtesy of Seaway GMC, 4 Hoosier Tires sponsored by Trick Race Parts and 5 envelopes of $100. Over $6,000 in prize and money will be given for this series as enticement.

Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock Series

The popular Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock Series is back again in full force with 6 events at 5 different tracks throughout Ontario, Quebec and northern New-York. Cornwall will be the host of the first race on Sunday, May 20^th with Mohawk receiving the series on Thursday, June 21^st. The tour will then head to the province of Quebec for 3-night affair starting at Autodrome Granby on Friday, July 6th; Autodrome Drummond on the 7^th and cap off at Le RPM Speedway on Sunday the 8^th. The series will end at Cornwall on September 2^nd.

The feature races are shortened to 40 laps for 2012 but with the same purse format as the winner will receive 750$ and all cars taking the green getting a minimum of $100. The drivers that will follow the entire series will also be recognized with a 100% participation draw that includes a full Pro-Stock body provided by Mohawk Race Parts and also 4 Hoosier tire from Trick Race Parts. This series always attracted the best talent from these tracks.

Both series will involve some of the biggest stars of the DIRTcar circuit and fans from Cornwall will be fortunate to see them compete at a high level during these events at the quarter mile bullring. The Cornwall Motor Speedway celebrates his 2011 champions !

Cornwall, Ont – Monday, April 2, 2012 – Martin Bélanger – The Cornwall Motor Speedway held in 2011 Banquet of champion at the beautiful South Stormont Community Hall this past Saturday, March 31^st as a record setting 275 guests gathered to celebrate and rememorize last year’s events.

Stéphane Lafrance left the banquet with pockets full of money and hands full of new and shiny trophies. Lafrance had a banner year in 2011, winning his first Jiffy Auto Service Modified Championship and also capturing the coveted Canadian National Series championship. He is the first driver to win both titles in the same year. Lafrance also finished runner up in the Doiron Engineering Cup to Frenchman Kayle Robidoux, Joel Doiron completed the podium in this series. Carey Terrance, Doiron, Tim O’Brien, Laurent Ladouceur and Luke Whitteker were also honoured in the Modified championship as they composed the top 6 in the 2011 points standing.

In the Alexandria Home Hardware Pro Stock division, Joey Ladouceur was crowned the track champion in front of Corey Wheeler, Dave Bissonnette, George Renaud and Dion Oakes. Ladouceur also won the Mohawk Race Parts Series in front of Wheeler and Stéphane Lebrun who completed the podium. With 6 wins over the season, Ladouceur has the most visits in the winner`s circle than anybody else at Cornwall last season.

Veteran driver Chris Herbison received the champion honours in the Giant Tiger Sportsman division after a great year in Cornwall. Herbison finished in front of Shane Pecore, Jeff Philipps, Mitch Primeau and Josh Jock rounded out the top 5.

Massena, NY resident Kevin Fetterly Jr. was named the 2011 champion in the Evans Bus Lines Semi-Pro division winning this title after running in the class for several seasons. Derek Cryderman finished second as Michael McCargar and Kevin McCrae, were tied for third place.

In the Crazy Dave`s DJ Services Mini Stock Division, Ernie Cree won the title in front of Mike Gaucher and Mathieu Aubin. Cree had a strong start in the season winning 4 features in the first five races and ending the year with a win in late September.

The Baxtrom`s Independant Grocer Rookie of the award went to Chris Raabe in the Modifieds, Rosco Garreau in the Pro-Stock, Michael McCargar in the Semi-Pro and Mathieu Renaud in the Mini-Stock.

The Mitch Jock Memorial Merit Award went to Mike Bissonnette, the #1 fan at Cornwall Motor Speedway and also a long time supporter in many division or drivers. A well deserved honour for M.Bissonnette. Guest Speaker and former vice-president of DIRT Motorsports, Gaston Salvas also spoke to the guests about his experience as an official for DIRT.

This event ended the celebration of 2011. We are now looking forward to the Sunday, May 20^th opening night with the first series race of the Gaetan Chip Stand Modified Canadian Nationals, a 100-lap event also counting toward the MrDIRTcar 358-Modified Series. The first race of the Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock series will also be on hand with a 40-lap feature. The Sportsman, Semi-Pro and Mini-Stock, are also on the card for that great night of racing. The 2012 Cornwall Motor Speedway Car Show starts on March 26

Cornwall, Ont – Friday, March 23, 2012 – Martin Bélanger – The annual Cornwall Motor Speedway car show is right around the corner as the 2012 edition will start next Monday, March 26^th at the Cornwall Square Shopping Centre located at 1 Water Street in Cornwall.

A great display of cars will be on hand for the delight of race fans. The Modified category will be represented by veteran driver and long time Cornwall support Brian McDonald, joining him will be rookie of the year contender Shane Pecore who will have his mount at the mall. A total of 3 Sportsman cars will be present with rookie contestant Corey Wheeler leading the way with returning female competitor Tammy Jalbert and her colleague Jenna David who will complete the Junior David team with Pecore. Another veteran returning to racing will be at the mall with his Pro-Stock as Dave Seguin is making a charge the full fender class for 2012. The Cornwall Karting club will also be well represented with several karts on exhibit.

For fans that would like to have a chance to meet their favourite drivers, they will be able to do so on Wednesday, March 28^th between 6:30pm and 7:30pm at the Cornwall booth, as an autograph session will be organized.

During this week of festivities, the Cornwall Motor Speedway will take the opportunity to honour their 2011 champions as the annual banquet of champions will be held at the South Stormont Community Hall in Long Sault on Saturday, March 31^st.

Cornwall Motor Speedway: THE place to be in 2012!

Ron Morin and his management team presented the highlights of the 2012 season in a special press conference held at the Vieux-Duluth restaurant in Cornwall. A lot of effort during the off-season was put towards the next summer events and you can expect that 2012 will be the best year ever at the speedway.

The season will officially start on Sunday, May 20th with first of three events of the Canadian Nationals for the 358-Modifieds. This race will also be counting towards the MrDIRTcar 358-Modified Series. What a way to start the season with a 100-lap event of the headline class!

As previously announced, Cornwall will host for the first time ever the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series; the best in the business on DIRT will be at the track on Sunday July 29^th as this event will be presented in conjunction with LKQ Headline Autoparts and Oshweken Speedway. Special cash awards will be given to drivers who run regularly in 360-sprint associations. The top qualifier of the Empire Super Sprints (ESS), Patriot Sprint Group (PST) and Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS), will receive a 500$ bonus. These drivers could double up their bonus as the top A Main finishers for one of these groups will get $500. The top 24 qualifiers for the main event will at least get 800$ for taking the initial green. Along with the WOO Sprints, the Lightning Mini-Sprints will also be on hand during that event. With that amount of money on the line, expect to see a huge turnout of sprint cars!

After a two-year absence the World of Outlaws Late Models are making a return at the speedway on Sunday, June 24^th. The 2-time winner and series champion Josh Richards will try to win another $10,000 after the completion of the Nortrax 50. At this date, around 20 tour followers are in the hunt of the coveted WOO championship with up to 6 new faces in the mix. The speedway is putting a $1,000 bonus amount to the highest WOO non-regular finisher in the finale. We could easily see more than 30 Late Models in the pits.

Along with the opening night, the MrDIRTcar 358-Modified series will also make another appearance at the speedway part of the final race of the Canadian Nationals Series on Sunday, September 2^nd part of the Jiffy 200, again a 125-lap race including a mandatory on track pit stop on lap 75. The second race of the Canadian Nationals is scheduled for Sunday August 5^th. The first two editions of this series attracted nearly 40 cars per night!

If you are looking for something to do on Canada Day, Cornwall Speedway is the place as the Super DIRTcar Big-Block Series will be town for their annual visit. The best Northeast Modified drivers will be in the pits for this Evans Bus Lines 100-lap event. A huge fireworks display will also occur to celebrate our country`s birthday.

The Sportsman and Pro-Stock ranks will also have a busy summer with a doubleheader MrDIRTcar Series event held on June 3^rd for both class. Also the return of the Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock Series involving 5 tracks and 6 races, plus a new 3-track St.Lawrence Seaway Sportsman Championship. More details to follow shortly on both series.

Sprint Car fans will be served on July 15th with the Patriot Sprint Tour in town for their lone visit of 2012. Also on the card, the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car club on August 26^th. The popular Fireball Enduro will close out the year on Sunday, September 9^th.

After consultation with fans the start time will be pushed back to 7pm except on the Labour Day Weekend. Also they will be happy to hear that the general admission for regular show was cut to 10$, a two-dollar decrease. To attract a younger generation of fans and families, everyone under 18 years old, will be admitted via general admission on regular night for only 2$. So for under 25$ a family of 2 adults and 2 children will be able to see the best racing in Eastern Ontario.
