Cornwall, Ont – Sunday , July 24, 2011 –Martin Bélanger - Cornwall Motor Speedway race fans had a great deal on their hands tonight with 7 features for the price of 5 as the Modifieds and Pro-Stock had double features because of last week`s rainout. The Sportsman, Semi-Pro and Mini-Stock were also on the racing card on Fence Depot night.
In tonight`s 30-lap Modified feature, Chris Raabe was the first leader with Bruno Lepage and Kyle Dingwall behind him. Stéphane Lafrance brought the caution on lap 7 as he stopped in turn 2. Raabe still in the lead with Kayle Robidoux using the high groove to take second over Lepage, as a multi-car accident occurred in turn 2 on lap 10. Raabe had company as Robidoux was on his side; they ran together for 3 laps until the yellow was out for Lafrance who headed to the pits. On the following green, Robidoux took the lead over Raabe while Brian McDonald passed Lepage for third. The yellow was back out on lap 18 for Pat Cashman. Robidoux still in front with Raabe second as McDonald and Carey Terrance exchanged the third spot; Jeff Sykes brought the caution on lap 23. Raabe gave a good battle to Robidoux for the lead as Doiron was now third. Robidoux leads the final laps to win the feature over Raabe, Doiron, McDonald and Terrance.
Chris Raabe took the early lead in last week`s remake of the 30-lap Modified feature, Brian McDonald took second with Joel Doiron in third with 5 laps completed. McDonald slipped a little bit; Doiron and Luke Whitteker were able to pass him. Doiron was on the back bumper of Raabe with 10 laps completed. On a lap 12 restart, Doiron got the lead over Whitteker and Robidoux as Raabe had issues with his car. Carey Terrance was on the move as he was now in third with 7 laps to go. Robidoux reclaimed third on lap 25 as Doiron was still in front. Doiron led the final laps to win his first feature of the season over Whitteker, Terrance, Robidoux and Laurent Ladouceur.
In the 20-lap Sportsman feature, Dillon Sallows took the lead of Billy Cook on lap 2. Caution came out on lap 7 for an accident in turn 2. Sallows got a good jump over Cook with Shane Pecore in battle with Dan Jalbert for third spot as Chris Herbison was now in the mix taking second with 4 laps to go. Sallows was able to resists to a late charge from Herbison and won his first feature race of his career in Sportsman.
Chris Tremblay led the first of 20 laps in the Pro-Stock feature as Michel Desjardins passed him on the second lap. The caution came out on lap 6 as Rock Aubin had heavy damage on his car. Desjardins is strong in front with Rosco Garreau holding second on Corey Wheeler as Gilles Godard and Joey Ladouceur in the mix when caution came out on lap 13. Desjardins keeps the lead as positions changed behind him as he was able to win his first feature in the Pro-Stock category over PJ Peters, Corey Wheeler, Garreau and Ghislain Valade.
The night started off with the 20-lap Pro-Stock feature of last week, Rock Aubin took the early lead in front of Marc Lalonde and Rosco Garreau. The first caution came out at the halfway point as Ricky Thompson had issues. Aubin, Lalonde, Garreau, Dave Bissonnette and Corey Wheeler, were the top 5 at that point. Aubin still in front as Joey Ladouceur cracked the top 5 on lap 13 as Wheeler was now in third. A caution came out on lap 16 and at the restart, Ladouceur had a great start and took the lead over Aubin, Ladouceur led the final laps to win his sixth feature of the season over Aubin and Wheeler.
The night ended with the 15-lap Semi-Pro feature, Joe Woods took the lead and led the first 6 laps as Derek Cryderman passed him. Kevin Fetterly move his way up to the leader as he was challenging him for the lead. Fetterly takes the lead on the last lap and wins the feature over Woods and Michael McCargar, Cryderman had issues with his car and lost several positions.
Mathieu Aubin grabbed the top spot in the 12-lap Mini-Stock feature; Aubin led the first three laps as Ben Nurse passed him. Daniel Desnoyer stepped into second at the halfway point with Marc Usereau in third. Nurse led the rest of the feature to get the win over Desnoyer and Usereau.
Cornwall will end the month of July with a bang with the second race of the Canadian Nationals for Modifieds, it will be also be counting for the MrDIRTcar 358-Modified championship trail, the biggest field of Modifieds of the season is expected! The Pro-Stock, Semi-Pro and Mini-Stock will also be on the schedule.
