Cornwall,
Ont – Sunday, July 1, 2012 – Martin Bélanger – Cornwall Motor Speedway had a
great way to celebrate Canada Day as the Super DIRTcar Big Block Series was in
town with all the Modified stars that came to town to compete in the Evans Bus
Lines 100 and try to win $6,000. A complete race program was also on the
card.
Bobby
Herrington and Justin Haers led the way in the Evans Bus Lines 100 Super DIRTcar
Big-Block Series, as Herrigton got the lead, with Chris Raabe and Danny Johnson
behind him. Johnson got second as the leaders got into traffic on lap 10;
Johnson got the lead from Herrington under these conditions. An accident
occurred on lap 14 as the leader Johnson got together with a lap car and it
involved also top runners Brett Hearn and Justin Haers. Raabe to the lead on the
restart as Mario Clair jumped to third. Clair had a strong car and took second
as Carey Terrance was now in the mix in third. The race quickly hit the 40 lap
mark and Raabe was setting the pace as Matt Sheppard cracked the top 5 and had
his sights on the top spot. Steve Bernard brought the caution on lap 44.
At the
halfway point, Raabe was still in the lead over Clair, Terrance, Sheppard and
Laurent Ladouceur. Billy Dunn made his way to the top 5 after starting
18th on lap 53. Sheppard got third just before Gary Tomkins stopped
in the backstretch with 42 laps to go. Raabe still in the lead on the restart as
a great battle was occurring behind him. Dunn in second place on lap 76 but
jumped the cushion in turn 4 and lost six spots. Clair found a good lane on the
top and was challenging for third with 83 laps in the books. Clair got to
Terrance for second with less than a dozen laps to go. Raabe got into heavy
traffic as the yellow lights came back. Raabe led the final laps to capture his
first ever Super DIRTcar Series Race over Clair, Terrance, Planck and
Ladouceur.
Charles-David Beauchamp was led the way in the Alexandria Home
Hardware Pro-Stock feature as Rosco Garreau and George Renaud were behind the
leader. Renaud got by Beauchamp for the lead as Dion Oakes and Joey Ladouceur
made their way to the top 5. Ladouceur passed two cars on the same lap and took
second at the halfway point. Renaud and Ladouceur ran side by side as Ghislain
Valade joined them in third. Renaud resisted and crossed the finish line first
in front of Ladouceur and Valade completed the podium.
A fine group
of 26 Sportsman took the green in the Storm Realty Tracy Wheeler 20-lap feature
as Louie Jackson was in the lead with Corey Wheeler running strong in second
with Jenna David in third. Chris Herbison was coming on strong as he got to
fourth on lap 6 as Wheeler passed Jackson 2 laps later for the lead just before
3 cars spun in turn 1. On the restart, Wheeler in the lead as Herbison got
third, second caution came out with 8 laps to go.  Herbison had issues with his car and headed to
the pits giving third to Gilles Godard. Wheeler survived some late cautions to
win his second feature of the season over Jackson and Gilles Godard.
Jake Deer and Junior Delormier swapped the lead in the 15-lap Evans Bus Lines Semi-Pro feature as Delormier got the lead for good and got his first win of the season in front of Joe Woods and Andrew Giroux.
A good field
of 16 cars took the initial green in the Crazy Dave`s DJ Services Mini-Stock
feature race. Chris James was the early leader but had issues and Danny Lefebvre
got the lead but lost it on the following restart as Michael Blais was now first
as Martin Bernard made his way up to second with Justin Desrosiers in third.
Blais still strong in front with Mathieu Aubin moving up to second with Bernard
still third. Bernard lost a wheel with 2 laps to go while running third and had
to head to pits. Blais leads the final laps to win his first feature of the
season over Aubin and Desrosiers.
